Fearing President Obama: 3-Environmentalism

Environmentalism has never been about trees.  It’s never been about spotted owls, snail-darters, and calling swamps “wetlands”.  Environmentalism has been about one thing and that is power.

Obama has drunk the Environmentlist Kool-Aid with more gusto than any major presidential candidate in history.  And why not?  Any industry that doesn’t do what you want can be run out of business using the environment as an excuse.

Biden signaled it this week with the statement that the Obama administration would bankrupt any new coal plants through environmental penalties and fees.

If that doesn’t frighten you, it should.  Government should never have that kind of power, but in the name of “Change” and “Crisis” people will sign over their very lives if they are asked.

Environmentalism is an industry.  Al Gore makes millions off of it and so do many others.  I believe in clean water and air, but the Gaia Cult is nearing religion status.  If you own an SUV, you’re a heretic of the movement.  And you remember what happened to heretics in the middle ages, don’t you?

ANWR In Perspective

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is 19,049,236 acres.  Of that, Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) has proposed that we be allowed to drill in up to 2,000 acres.  Let’s put that amount in perspective, shall we?

The following picture represents ANWR and what would be drilled.  The little black spot in the middle represents the drilled portion.

 anwr

If you were to lay a bath towel in the middle of a football field, you would have a larger percentage than what we need in ANWR.

One of the major problems we have is educating people of this fact.  When people think of drilling in ANWR, they think in terms of drilling in their local city park.

Supreme Court Smacks Environuts on Border Fence

One of the greatest obstacles to progress – any progress – is the litigious nature of the environmentalists.  Whenever they oppose something, they sue.  Since the open borders crowd are often environuts anyway, it stands to reason that they would try to stop the border fence by suing for environmental reasons.

Fortunately, the SCOTUS wasn’t buying:

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to question a law that lets the Homeland Security Department circumvent environmental restrictions and other laws in order to build a fence along part of the Mexican border.

The justices, without comment, today turned away an appeal by the Defenders of Wildlife and the Sierra Club, which challenged a 2-mile stretch of fence in a conservation area in Arizona.

Environut Countdown: Obama tentatively supports nuclear power

 Nuke

In what can only be a direct response to John McCain’s proposal for 45 new nuclear plans in the next 22 years, Barack Obama has decided that maybe nuclear power isn’t such a bad idea since it’s genuinely clean.

Barry tried to leave himself “an out” with the environmentalists by citing nuclear waste concerns, but I guarantee it’s not enough.

So, how long is it going to be before the environuts come screaming at him?  More importantly, how long will it be before Obama issues a clarification followed by a retraction?

During a meeting with U.S. governors, Obama noted that nuclear power does not emit greenhouse gases and therefore the United States should consider investing research dollars into whether nuclear waste can be stored safely for its reuse.

But he said, "I don't think that nuclear power is a panacea."

But even when Obama is trying to move to the center, his foot is solidly anchored on the left.  Read the story snippet above carefully.  Notice that he still thinks that it’s the government’s job to do research, not private industry.  Translation: even when he’s right, he still wants to be wrong by spending your money.

Ok, Greenpeace!  The clock is ticking!  Let’s hear the condemnation!

Things I'll Be Doing to Celebrate Earth Day

al_gore_green

  • Driving my big gas-wasting minivan, alone, with my A/C on max even though I could just put down the window.
  • Accelerating and braking to use as much gas as possible.
  • Emptying recycling bins into regular trash
  • Extra long shower
  • Turning on all the lights in the house, except for the one fluorescent light.  That one can stay off.
  • Putting old computer monitors in the trash pickup.
  • Use old anti-freeze to remove the weeds in my driveway.
  • Buy more disposable diapers for the babies.
  • Eat only things that come out of plastic containers which are not biodegradable.
  • Flushing any chemical I can find
  • One word:  Styrofoam!
  • Spray aerosol cans until they're gone
  • Break light bulbs to release the gas into the atmosphere.

The Left Abuses Even Dead Soldiers

No, I'm not talking about Peppermint Cindy and the exploitation of her dead son, I'm referring to Time Magazine's atrocious cover below.

Time Iwo Jima Cover

I honestly don't know which is more disturbing, the desecration of one of our greatest symbols of military victory or the blatant liberal bias of Time.

A True "Blue Collar Comedy" Moment

It seems that there's a really old pecan tree here in Atlanta that wants to die but the tree-huggers won't let it:

A grass-roots effort to preserve a northeast Atlanta pecan tree got a shot in the arm —or trunk— Monday.

A group of concerned citizens signed off on a deal with Park Pride, a non-profit organization that helps raise money to save green space. The agency will collect and manage online contributions (www.parkpride.org), said Teri Stewart, a Gordon Avenue resident who is leading the fight to stop a landowner from cutting down the tree, nicknamed "Grandma Gordon."

The 150-year-old tree is on a half-acre of land at the corner of Gordon and DeKalb avenues. Landowner Adam Gaslowitz has submitted plans to the city of Atlanta indicating plans to either sell the land or develop it and tear down many of its trees. Last week, the Atlanta Tree Conservation Commission gave residents 30 days to come up with $1 million to buy the land.

I immediately thought of Ron White (also from the South) and his bit about dead trees:

(warning:  this is not work safe and it does have bad language)
