Fred Thompson and the GOP have released a 12 minute video warning of the inevitable calamity if Obama is elected. Fred is his usual folksy, eloquent self, but I fear it’s too little too late.
Fred Thompson Warns America
The problem is that Fred is preaching to the choir. Nobody who would be influenced by him is going to vote for Obama anyway!
I agree that to remain silent is not an option, but as the closing statement indicates, this video was paid for by the Republican National Committee. Money was spent to produce this, but to what end? To be able to wag your finger in 2 years and say, “we told you so?”

A new video that says all of the right things. I don’t know what good it’s expected to do though. It seems to me to be a waste of PAC money when the money could be better spent making short commercials for mass media. Heck, even if they made short videos for YouTube, it would be better. People have short attention spans. Nobody except someone who is already interested is going to watch a 5:28 video!
I suppose they could say that they’re trying to rally the conservative troops, but every time I see McCain in the video I think, “that’s all well and good but what about immigration, global warming, campaign-finance, etc.?”
You know, guys, it’s going to take a lot more than inspiring words from Ronald Reagan and Fred Thompson to get us excited about John McCain. The energy policy started to be a good step but then he came up with the goofy $300MM giveaway for a better battery.
He needs to stand for something. Period.

It's official.
If only he had fought for it from the beginning, things might have been different.
So, as I said before, Mitt's my man now. It still tastes kind of like brussels sprouts, but I'll get used to it, I guess.

Yeah, I think Fred Thompson should be president and I still do. I'm also a realist. Fred's done. He admitted that he needed SC to be viable and he came in 3rd. Perhaps if he'd come in second, he might have a prayer of continuing, but if Thompson can't win South Carolina, he really can't win anywhere.
Why Fred lost
Fred Thompson ran a crappy campaign, there's no other way to say it. Conservatives were clamoring for someone other than Romney (because of his flipping) and eagerly encouraged Fred to get in the race, something he took months to finally do. When he finally announced, he did so on Jay Leno while all of the other candidates were having a debate.
One of the key components of any successful campaign (and by that I mean a campaign that actually does well even if they may not win) is organization. With organization comes money and Fred had neither until it was too late. This is the essence of people suggesting that Fred lacked passion and is the ultimate validation of those sentiments.
Why Huckabee is done
He lost SC to someone even more liberal than he is. Huckabee's campaign needs money badly and this loss (even though he came in second) will kill his fundraising as well as any "winner" vibe. Unfortunately, Huckabee's an egomaniac and will stay in the race at least through February 5 and will likely hurt Romney more than anyone.

I am a Ronald Reagan conservative through and through. He is the third greatest leader this country has ever had, behind Lincoln and Washington (in that order).
There is only one candidate that truly represents those ideals (including the optimism for America) and has consistently done so throughout his career and that is Fred Dalton Thompson. Every other candidate tries to lay claim to Reagan conservatism, but the only other candidate whose positions align with Reagan is a "Ronnie come lately" whose positions evolve with his political aspirations.
I initially favored Thompson but his lackluster fundraising and campaigning made me (and many others) wonder about his passion for the job. You've got to want it, but you also have to be passionate about your positions and that was lacking in Thompson's campaigning as well as his debate performances. That had left me in a quandary because I can't support someone I don't think has passion for his convictions.
All of that changed when Fred Thompson stepped up to the plate in South Carolina and hit the ball out of the park. I had known Thompson shared my belief about government and its role, but until that debate the "fire in the belly" wasn't there.
There has been talk of "it's too late" but I disagree. It's not even February yet! Every primary or caucus, the MSM does their darndest to get one or more candidates to drop out, because that gives them something new to talk about for 3 days. Don't believe the hype. There are still 46 other states that have yet to have their primaries, including my own state of Georgia on February 5th.
Unfortunately, because Thompson has had a very poorly run campaign, he's lacking in media attention as well as in fundraising. My mother told me once that democracy costs money and if you have an interest in seeing your interests protected, you need to contribute.
Fred Thompson is the only conservative, the only genuine conservative in the race today. But he does need money. If you are interested in getting a truly conservative man into the White House, then I urge you to contribute to Thompson today.
All of the other candidates are pretenders to the throne or a political chameleon. Support the real conservative for President.

It's hard for Romney. Even though he was the front runner in delegates, he kept getting painted as someone who's lost repeatedly and was therefore less relevant than Huckabee and McCain. Now at least Romney has a little momentum, though that will be lost in SC, which he has said he is going to skip.
Who was the biggest loser in Michigan? Well, it wasn't McCain, even though McCain won it 4 years ago. No, the biggest loser was Huckabee. Any momentum he had is gone, gone, gone. South Carolina becomes a must-win state for him as well as Thompson.
What's ahead? Florida just got a lot more interesting. Florida's snow-bird population comes from both New England (particularly NY) and the midwest (particularly Michigan). The voters in Florida that came from Michigan are older and will remember Romney's dad, so the name recognition help continues. With Rudy being so cash-poor that they asked 12 of their senior staff to work for free and Romney having absolutely no money problems, this is going to be a battle royal. Expect Florida to start tightening up immediately.
What else? South Carolina will be won by Fred Thompson (or very close). Huckabee's star is falling like a stone and Thompson's on the rise with fundraising going well. I predict that Huckabee will become irrelevant after SC though he won't quit. McCain will also become less relevant as it becomes clear that he can't win Republicans and the only way he can get primary delegates is if non-republicans vote.
