There are two criticisms of Obama that have gained traction recently and those are that he's overexposed to the the point where people tire of hearing about him and that he's a self-absorbed elitist, aka rock star.
So what does Obama do when he picks his running mate?
He teases all week by not saying when he would announce it, but plans a rally on Saturday with his pick.
He announces that he'll announce over a text message.
He doesn't announce Tuesday
He doesn't announce Wednesday
He doesn't announce Thursday
His campaign sent a text message taunting people by putting the subject as "Vice President" and the message as "just kidding".
And what now? He announces he's chosen, but won't say who. He announces that the VP shortlist was notified, but won't say who. He announces that his former opponents were notified, but he still won't say who.
So day after day, people hear everything and nothing. Every day we see how they taunt the press and the public with what amounts to a meaningless decision anyway. It doesn't matter who it is going to be (Chet Edwards is now the safe bet, thanks to Pelosi), it doesn't change the democrat campaign.
But what does it do? It keeps putting Obama's smug face in front of the camera and remind people that he's "above it all" and will tell you when he deigns to tell you. Even the press is getting tired of it.
How long will the Audicity of Arrogance wear away at even his own supporters? How long can it last without having an even more demonstrable effect than it has?
Obama has turned what could have been a surprise that thrilled people into nothing more than a little kid teasing the dog with a treat by pulling it away each time it gets near. He could have surprised people and built excitement, but he's overplayed it and now it's just going to be a lead balloon amounting to "oh. big deal."
